As the stomach turns or Adventures in Moving

The saga of the move as promised - although a little late due to some wrangling with Bell that I'll get into later.

When I decided to move and found this cozy little apartment in Oshawa, I gave 60 days notice to my super as required by the lease I had signed three years earlier. I hadn't signed a new lease in all that time but I gave the notice anyways. My super told me that I would need to give her the notice in writing so I typed up a nice little letter saying that I was moving and giving them the date that i would vacate. My super did not live on the property so I had to wait until I saw her a week later to give her the written notice -not a problem I thought. HAHA silly me. I got a letter back from the property managment company telling me that I would need to stay a month longer as notice had to be given at the end of the month and not the beginning. Yeah right, like I was staying in Casa Del Mold a day longer than necessary. On the day before we were going to move I got an eviction notice from the managment company saying that I had to be out 7 days after I was actually going to move. I figured c'est la vie - they have my last months rent so too bad so sad, I'm outta here. Two weeks ago I got a letter from them saying that I owned them a months rent and if I didn't pay up they were going to take me to court. Good luck to them LOL - I don't think that they have a leg to stand on as the lease I signed THREE years ago was only good for twelve months - good luck sueing me LOL.

Anyhow..... a month prior to the move I reserved a truck through UHaul over the internet - how convenient I thought, now I don't need to go to the actually UHaul store and do this. I got a confirmation email stating that they would call me by 5 pm the day before the actual truck rental and I thought all was well. Little did I know that the God of Mischief was laughing at me and nudging all the other Gods saying " Watch this - it's gonna be good" . To fully appreciate the whole screweduppedness of this, you need to understand that the UHaul store is three blocks away. The night before we are moving, I wait for that phone call, and wait and wait. When six rolled around, I call the number I have been given. Guess what? My reservation means SQUAT. They have no truck available for me and they will call me as soon as one comes available. So I carry on packing stuff up and hope for the best. 11 pm the phone rings, there is a truck available ( a 14 ft one hahahaha - only if I want to make 3 trips lol) in Mississauga (outskirts of Toronto) - I turn that one down. 6 am the phone rings - they have a truck for me! In GUELPH!!! AND it won't be available until 1 in the afternoon. Greaaaaaattttt. But we were desperate so off we go at 11:30 to make sure that we were there on time. We get to Guelph and have to find a tiny tiny little Uhaul place - we passed it three times but finally we were there. There is a note on the window - Family emergency Back by three. Marvelous. Nowhere to sit except the car, no shade anywhere and it's 98 degrees. So we hang around chatting with the other people who are waiting - their truck broke down three blocks from this place and now they are waiting for a new one. After about an hour, the owners wife shows up and starts making calls - the other people waiting are sent to Kitchener to get another truck and we still wait. And wait and wait and wait. Finally at 5, another truck pulls in - ooohhhh this is ours, somewhat bigger than we wanted but HA we don't care at this point. So off we trundle in our 26 feet truck that we are scared to death to drive.
Lalalalala home we go. Pack pack pack all night - all things we forgot about when we were packing earlier. Potsie is coming in the morning to help load the truck so it's all good right? HA. Morning rolls around and I call Potsie at 10 to make sure he's coming to help. No problem he says. 11 oclock, 12 oclock - he FINALLY shows up at 1 and then proceeds to be not much help at all. BT is doing most of the work with Katie and I helping where we can. Let's just say it didn't go smoothly and we can't take too long loading the truck because we have to be here at the new apartment by 5ish so that we can get out full four hours with the elevator. Yes that's right, 4 hours. That's all the time they will give us to get everything in.

To be continued.

Moving absolutely sucks. I think it's one of the greatest tests of human character!

OMG! Sounds like a freaking nightmare, the place you last lived at, was it managed by Effort Trust perhaps? I had the same EXACT same thing happen to me via them, i ended up paying them for only a percentage of the fee (which I refused to pay the rest since I was only late in getting the letter to him by 3 days & had told him verbally on time) but ya know what? still the only red flag on my credit report, as if I never paid them! Pisses me right off.
